Size: Teen/Adult approx. 21 circumference at brim (hat will stretch to fit)

 

Materials:

150 yds. DK wt. cotton

82 yds. ladder-type ribbon

Sample shown in Tahki "Cotton Classic" held together with Trendsetter

"Binario"

Size J/10 (6.00 mm) hook, or size needed to achieve gauge

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 3 hdc = 1" with 1 strand cotton held together with 1 strand ribbon

on size J/10 (6.00 mm) hook

Stitches/Terms: beginning (beg), chain (ch), decrease (dec), half double crochet

(hdc), increase (inc), repeat (rep), round (rnd), single crochet (sc), single crochet

two together (sc2tog), slip stitch (sl st), stitch (st)

Pattern notes:

Beret is worked in joined rounds that begin at center of crown. Stitches are

increased, then decreased at lower edge for brim band.

Beret

Rnd 1: With 1 strand cotton held together with 1 strand ribbon, ch 4, join into

ring, ch 2, work 11 hdc in ring, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 (12 hdc)

Rnd 2 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, work 2 hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st

(24 hdc)

Rnd 3 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in next hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc, hdc in

next hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (36 hdc)

Rnd 4 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 2 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 2 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (48 hdc)

Rnd 5 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 3 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 3 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (60 hdc)

Rnd 6 (inc rnd): Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea of next 4 hdc, *2 hdc in next hdc,

hdc in ea of next 4 hdc, rep from * around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnd 7: Ch 2, hdc in same st, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Rnds 8-12: Ch 2, hdc in ea hdc around, join with sl st (72 hdc)

Brim band:

Drop ladder ribbon strand and attach a second strand of cotton. Continue

working with double-strand of solid color cotton as follows:

Rnd 13: Ch 1, sc in same st, sc in ea st around, join with sl st (72 sc)

Rnd 14 (dec rnd): Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next3 sc, sc next 2 sc together, *sc

in next 4 sc, sc2tog, rep from * around, join with sl st (60 sc)

Rnd 15: Ch 1, sc in ea sc around (60 sc)

Rnd 16 (dec rnd): Ch 1, sc in same sc and in next 2 sc, sc next 2 sc together, *sc

in next 3 sc, sc2tog, rep from * around, join with sl st (50 sc).

Rnd 17: Ch 1, sc in ea sc around (50 sc)

Rnd 18: Slip st loosely in ea sc around, join with sl st. Fasten off and weave in

ends.
