Square 1:
Rnd 1: Ch
4, join into ring, ch 1, work 8 sc in ring, join with sl st (8 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch
1, sc in same sc, *ch 5, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * 3
times, ending last rep ch 5, sl st in beg sc (four ch-5 lps)
Rnd 3: Sl
st into first ch-5 lp, ch 1, *in ch-5 lp work (sc, hdc, dc, ch 2,
dc, hdc, sc)(corner completed), ch 2, rep from * around, join with
sl st.
Rnd 4: Ch
1, sc in ch-2 sp to right of join, ch 5, *in corner work (sc, ch 3,

4 & 5: Rep Square 2, joining each new square to one corner of

Weave in
all tails.
Stiffen
bookmark lightly with white glue/water or starch solution. Place
dampened bookmark on wax-paper covered surface, spreading or pinning
out lace pattern with rust-proof pins, and leave to dry.
Finishing: Cut 14” length of ¼” satin ribbon and weave in and out
of motifs as shown, weaving ribbon under Rnds 3 & 4, over Rnd 2, and
under Rnd 1 of each motif. Trim ribbon ends with a diagonal cut.
