(sample shown in Lily “Elite Cotton” (184 yds./168 m. per 100
gm./3.5 oz skein) in following colors: purple (Color A), green
(Color B), hot pink (Color C), and cream (Color D))

Gauge: 14 dc = 4", 6 dc rows = 4.5” in worsted wt. cotton on size H

crochet (sc), slip stitch (sl st), space (sp), stitch (st)
Special stitches:
Shell: Work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in one space
Dc-corner: Work (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) all in one space
Sc-corner: Work (sc, ch 3, sc) all in one space
Pattern notes: Center portion of scarf is worked vertically, then
border is picked up all around outside edge. Finished off with
center ruffle trim worked on top of stitches in center panel.

Row 1:
With Color A, ch 6, join into ring with sl st, ch 3, 2 dc in ring,
ch 3, 3 dc in ring (shell completed), turn (1 shell)
Row 2:
Ch 3, shell in next ch-3 sp (the center sp of shell on previous
row), dc in top of beg ch-3, turn.
Row 3:
Ch 3, shell in shell, dc in top of beg ch-3, turn.
Rep
Row 3 until 88 rows of shells have been worked. Fasten off Color A.
Border
Rnd
1: Beginning at short end of scarf, join Color B at stop of last
shell row in sp at upper right edge, ch 3, in same sp work (2 dc, ch
3, 3 dc)(first dc-corner completed), 3 dc in next sp (the center sp
of shell on short end of scarf), in next sp at left edge work (3 dc,
ch 3, 3 dc)(second dc-corner completed), working along left side of
piece, *3 dc in next sp, rep from * to last sp on this side, work
dc-corner in last sp, 3 dc in center sp at base of shell on short
end of scarf, work dc-corner in sp at left edge, **3 dc in next sp
on side of piece, rep from ** to beg of rnd, join with sl st in top
of beg ch-3. Fasten off Color B (85 3-dc grps along ea long side, 2
dc-corners & one 3-dc grp at ea short end)
Rnd 2:
Beginning at short end of scarf, join Color C in corner sp at right
edge (in same corner where Rnd 1 started), ch 1, in same sp work
(sc, ch 3, sc)(first sc-corner completed), ch 3, *sk next dc, sc in
next dc, ch 3, rep from * to next corner , in corner sp work (sc, ch
3, sc)(second sc-corner completed), ch 3, **sk next dc, sc in next
dc, ch 3, rep from ** around, working sc-corner in ea corner, join
with sl st to beg sc. Fasten off Color C (131 ch-3 lps along ea
long side, 2 corners & 5 ch-3 lps along ea short end)
Center
ruffle trim
(Note:
To work around base of shells more easily, fold piece down
row-by-row in order to pass hook from right to left through spaces
on either side of shell base.)
Hold
scarf horizontally with front side facing. Working from right to
left along center of strip, join Color D by inserting hook in and
out of center spaces at base of first shell, yo, pull lp through, ch
1, in same place work (sc, ch 3, sc), *ch 3, in next shell base sp
work (sc, ch 3, sc), rep from * along entire length of scarf. Fasten
off Color D and weave in all tails.
