Materials:
1000 yds. worsted wt. yarn (MC peach, or color of choice)
400 yds. worsted wt. yarn (contrast Color A cream, or color of
choice)
300 yds. worsted wt yarn (contrast Color B sage, or color of
choice)
Size I/9 (5.5 mm.) hook or size needed to achieve gauge

Gauge:
11 dc = 4 in double crochet on size I hook
5 rows in stripe patt (2 dc rows + 3 openwork
rows) = 2.5
Terms/Abbreviations:
beginning (beg), chain (ch), double crochet (dc), each (ea),
hook (hk), repeat (rep), single crochet (sc), skip (sk), slip
stitch (sl st), space (sp), stitch (st)
Pattern notes:
Lapghan is worked back and forth in rows, then lace border is
applied to each end at finish. Can be used with stripes arranged
vertically or horizontally.
Special stitches:
V-stitch (V-st): Work (dc, ch 3, dc) all in same st.
Shell: Work 7 dc in same ch sp, as directed in pattern.
Lapghan
Row 1: With MC, ch 117, dc in 4th ch from hk & in ea
ch across, turn (115 dc)
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in ea dc across, changing to Color A in last st,
turn (115 dc)
Row 3 (begin openwork patt): Ch 1, sc in ea dc across, turn (115
sc)
Row 4: Ch 3, dc in next sc, *ch 1, sk 1, dc in next sc, rep from
* across to last st, dc in last sc, turn (59 dc, 56 ch-1 sps)
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in ea dc and ea ch-1 sp across, changing to MC
in last st, turn (115 sc)
Row 6: Ch 3, dc in ea sc across, turn (115 dc)
Row 7: Ch 3, dc in ea dc across, changing to Color B in last st,
turn (115 dc)
Rows 8-12: Rep Rows 3-7, changing to Color A at end of
Row 12.
Rep Rows 3-12, following established color sequence &
alternating use of Colors A & B thus:
2 rows MC
3 rows Color A
2 rows MC
3 rows Color B
Rep this color sequence until a total of 77 rows have been
worked, ending with 3 rows Color A & 2 rows MC. At end of last
row, do not fasten off MC.
Edging:
Rnd 1: Continuing with MC, ch 1, sc evenly around entire piece
so edging stays flat, placing 3 sc in ea corner (approx. 114 sc
along ea side and end). Join with sl st, fasten off MC. Attach
Color B, do not turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in ea sc around, working 3 sc in ea corner.
Note: Before proceeding with lace border, be sure to have
121 sc along ea short end of piece. Join with sl st and fasten
off Color B, do not turn.
Lace border:
With right side facing you, attach Color A in right-hand corner
at one short end of piece.
Row 1: Ch 3, dc in next sc, sk 2 sc, in next sc work (dc, ch 3,
dc)(V-st completed), *sk 2 sc, dc in ea of next 3 sc, sk 2 sc,
V-st in next sc, rep from * across, ending with sk 2 sc, in next
sc work V-st, sk 2 sc, dc in ea of last 2 sc, turn (15 V
sts, 14 3-dc groups)
Row 2: Ch 3, in sp of next V-st, work 7 dc (shell completed),
*dc in center dc of next 3-dc group, shell in next V-st, rep
from * across, sk second to last dc, dc in top of turning ch,
turn (15 shells)
Row 3: Ch 4, dc in same st at base of ch (counts as beg V-st), *sk
next 2 dc on shell, dc in ea of next 3 dc, sk next 2 dc on
shell, V-st in next dc, rep from * across, ending with last V-st
worked into top of turning ch, turn (16 V-sts)
Row 4: Sl st in sp of first V-st, ch 3, work 3 dc in same sp, dc
in center dc of next 3-dc group, *shell in next V-st, dc in
center dc of next 3-dc group, rep from * across, ending with 4
dc in sp of last V-st. Fasten off.
Rep Lace border at other end of lapghan.
Finishing: Weave in all tails. If necessary, gently wash and
block lapghan.
