Notes: Stocking is
worked in rnds from cuff to toe. Hdc & dc rounds are completed with sl st
joins and chain-up to begin next round. Sc rnds are worked in continuous
spiral on foot & with sl st joins on heel and toe.

“Homespun” and size I hook, ch 48, join into ring, being careful not to
twist sts.
Rnd 1:
Ch 2, hdc in ea ch around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-2 (48 hdc)

Ch 2, hdc in back loop only (BLO) of ea hdc around (48 hdc)

At end of last rnd, join with sl st and fasten off.
Heel
opening:
Fold
stocking flat with center back (where beginning tail is hanging) facing you
(you should see eight 2-dc groups with spaces between). Count 3 sps to
right of center back sp, attach gold with sc in that space.
Rnd 1:
Ch 16 (for heel opening), skip six 2-dc groups, sc in next sp, sc in the dc
only of ea 2-dc group around (skip the sps), join with sl st to first sc (36
sc)
Rnd 2:
Ch 1, sc in ea ch and sc around (36 sc). Place thread marker to note
beginning of rounds.
Foot
(worked in continuous spiral rounds; do not join with sl st at end of
ea rnd. Move thread marker up each round to note beginning of rounds.):
Rnds
1-12: Sc in ea sc
around (36 sc). At end of Rnd 12, finish last step of last sc by attaching
white. Cut gold.
Toe (worked
in rounds with sl st join at end of ea rnd):
Rnd 1:
With white, ch 1, sc in same st, sc in next 17 sc, place thread marker (to
note side of toe), sc in next 18 sc, place thread marker (to note other side
of toe), join with sl st (36 sc)
Rnd 2
(dec rnd): Ch 1, sc
in first sc, sc2tog, sc across to 3 sc before first marker, sc2tog, sc in
next sc, sl marker, sc in next sc, sc2tog, sc across to 3 sc before second
marker, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sl marker, join with sl st (32 sc)
Rnd 3
(even rnd): Ch 1, sc
in ea sc around, join with sl st (32 sc)
Rep Rnds
2 & 3 until 16 sc
remain, then decrease every round until 8 sc remain. Cut yarn,
leaving 8” tail, gather sts tog and pull to close toe. Weave in tails.
Heel:
Attach
white to center back of stocking at heel opening (on the 2 dc-group edge),
ch 1, work 36 sc evenly around opening, join with sl st to beg sc (36 sc).
Place thread marker to note each side of heel.
Work heel
same as Rnds 2 & 3 of toe until 14 sts remain, then decrease every
rnd until 10 sts rem. Cut yarn, gather sts to close opening. Weave in
tails.
Decorative
Top Edging:
Working on
opposite side of beginning chain at top of stocking, join white at center
back.
Rnd 1:
Ch 1, work 48 sc evenly around top of stocking, join with sl st to beg sc
(48 sc)
Rnd 2:
Ch 1, sc in same sc, ch 1, skip 2 sc, *in next sc work (dc, ch-1, dc, ch-1,
dc, ch-1, dc)(shell completed), ch 1, skip 2 sc, sc in next sc, rep from *
around, ending with ch 1, join with sl st (8 shells)
Rnd 3
(picot rnd): Ch 1, sc
in same sc, sl st to first sp of first shell, *ch 3, sl st in same sp, sl st
in next sp, rep from * twice, sl st in next 2 sps (yarn is in position in
first sp of next shell)**, rep from * to ** around, join with sl st to beg
sc (8 shells with 3 picot points on ea shell). Fasten off and weave in
tails.
Hanger:
Attach gold
at center back seam inside top of stocking. Ch 15, sl st back in joining to
create loop, then sl st in ea ch of loop, join to point where yarn was first
attached. Fasten off and weave in tails securely.
Eyelash
Trim:
(Note: it
may be helpful to fold stocking along unused loop lines to make it easier to
see where to attach the eyelash trim)
With
eyelash yarn and size G hook, working in unused loops of hdc on Rnd 1,
attach eyelash yarn to center back seam st, ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 3, sc
in next unused loop, rep from * around, join with sl st. Fasten off. Rep
on unused loops of Rnds 3 and 5. Weave in tails.
Finishing:
Block
stocking by laying it flat between damp towels. Allow to dry.
Bell &
Ribbon Trim:
With 12”
lengths of 1/8” ribbon, tie one small jingle bell to center of each shell at
top of stocking, and to inside corner point of heel on front and back. Tie
the large bell to tip of toe.
Weave three
1-yd. lengths of ¼” (2 burgundy, 1 black) through last hdc rnd below eyelash
trim section and tie in a bow on front of stocking.
