Gauge:
In pattern, 3.5 triangles = 4” on size I/9 (5.5 mm) hook
Triangle base = 1.25”, triangle height = 1.5”
Pattern notes:
Central square is worked in one piece in back-and-forth rows
beginning at lower edge, then a contrast color edging is applied
around all four sides.

Row 1
(RS): With MC, ch 82, sc in 2nd ch from hk, *ch 6, sc in
3rd ch from hk, over next 3 ch work (hdc, dc, trc), sk 3
ch, sc in next ch (triangle completed), rep from * across, turn
(20 triangles)
Row 2
(WS): Ch 6, sc in ch at tip of first triangle, ch 3, *sc in ch at
tip of next triangle, ch 3, rep from * across, ending with sc in ch
at tip of last triangle, ch 1, dtr in last sc, turn.
Row 3:
Ch 10, sk the dtr & ch-1 from previous row, sc in next sc (i.e., top
of first triangle), *ch 6, sc in 3rd ch from hk, over
next 3 ch work (hdc, dc, trc), sk 3 ch, sc in next sc (triangle
completed), rep from * across, ending with ch 5, sk 1 ch of turning
ch, dtr in next ch of turning ch, turn (19 triangles)
Row 4:
Ch 1, sc into first st (i.e., top of dtr just completed on previous

Work
set-up round for border:
Note: on this
round work over chains and post of the dtr stitches to encase
them with sc, rather than into the chains or strands of the dtr.
Rnd 1
(RS): Work sc evenly along each side of piece as follows:
Top:
Ch 1, work 3 sc in first sp, sk next sc, *work 4 sc in next sp, sk
next sc, rep from * across to last 2 sps (not counting turning ch
sp), end with 2 sc in next sp, sk next sc, 2 sc in next sp, sc in
last sc (76 sc). Pivot piece to work along left side.
Left
side: Work 6 sc in first sp, sk next st (i.e., row end), *work 5 sc
in next sp, sk next st (i.e., row end), rep from * across to last
sp, work 4 sc in last sp, sc in last st (76 sc). Pivot piece to work
along bottom (i.e., opposite side of foundation ch).
Bottom: Work 3 sc in first sp, sk next st (i.e., bottom of sc on opp
side of foundation ch), work 3 sc in next sp, sk next st, *work 4 sc
in next sp, sk next st, rep from * to last 2 sps, work 3 sc in next
sp, sk next st, work 3 sc in last sp (76 sc). Pivot piece to work
along last side.
Last
side: *Work 5 sc in next sp, sk next st (i.e., row end), rep from *
to last sp, work 6 sc in last sp (76 sc). Join with sl st to beg
sc, do not turn (304 sc total). Fasten off MC.
Triangle edging:
Rnd 1
(RS): Join CC in same sc at upper right corner of piece where MC was
fastened off. Work triangles around entire edge as follows: *Ch 6,
sc in 3rd ch from hk, over next 3 ch work (hdc, dc, trc),
sk 3 sc, sc in next sc (triangle completed), rep from * around, join
with sl st, do not turn (76 triangles)
Rnd 2
(RS): Ch 1, *sl st in ea of 4 sts along first side of next triangle,
sl st in point of triangle, sl st in ea of 4 sts along second side
of triangle, sl st in next sc, rep from * around, join with sl st.
Fasten off CC.
Finishing:
Weave
in all tails. Following care instructions on yarn ball band, block
piece lightly to finished measurements.
Variation: For a smaller table center or doily-style piece, use
sport yarn or size 10 thread with appropriate smaller hook sizes.
