APPLE & PINE TREE DISHCLOTHS (knit)

Size: Approx. 7" square

Materials:

100 yds. worsted wt. cotton yarn (samples shown in Lion Brand “Lion Cotton”) - red for apple cloth, pine green for pine tree cloth

Pair of size 6 (4.25 mm) needles

Stitch markers

Tapestry needle

Gauge: Not critical for this project - approx 4.5 sts = 1" in st st on size 6 (4.25 mm) needles

Stitches/Terms: bind off (BO), cast on (CO), knit (k), pm (place marker), purl (p), repeat (rep), slip stitch (sl st), stitch (st), stockinette stitch (st st)

Pattern notes:

Dishcloths are knit back and forth in rows. Motifs are worked following chart.

Keep 5 stitches each side in garter st (knit every row).

Use stitch markers to separate edges from center portion of cloth & slip markers every row.

Dishcloths

With red for apple cloth or pine green for pine tree cloth, cast on 31 sts.

Lower border: Knit 8 rows.

Next row (RS): K5, pm, k21, pm, k5.

Next row (WS): K5, sl marker, p21, sl marker, k5.

Next row (RS): K5, sl marker, k21, sl marker, k5.

Next row (WS): K5, sl marker, p21, sl marker, k5.

Begin chart:

Row 1(RS): K5, sl marker, work 21 sts of Chart Row 1, sl marker, k5.

Keeping 5 sts ea side in garter st & slipping markers every row, continue to follow chart Rows 2-15 of motif.

Next row (WS): K5, sl marker, p21, sl marker, k5.

Next row (RS): K5, sl marker, k21, sl marker, k5.

Next row (WS): K5, sl marker, p21, sl marker, k5.

Rep last 2 rows once.

Upper border: Knit 8 rows. Bind off and weave in tails.
