Pattern notes:
Hat is
worked in one piece in a ribbed pattern from narrow end to narrow
end, with increases and decreases at each edge.
One
stitch at each edge is maintained as a knit stitch for self-edging.
Crocheted edging and flower are optional embellishments.

Weave
in all tails.
Optional crochet edging:
Hold
piece with right side facing. With crochet hook, join CC near one
pointed end of piece.
Rnd 1:
Ch 1, sc evenly around entire piece, join with sl st to beg sc.
Fasten off and weave in tails.
Button
loop: With crochet hook, attach yarn at cast-on end of piece (in
first st of the 3 sts on Row 1). Ch 3, skip center st of Row 1, sl
st into third st. Fasten off and weave in tails.
Optional crocheted flower (in choice of two colors):
With
crochet hook and first color, ch 4, join into ring.
Rnd 1:
Ch 1, work 8 sc in ring, join with sl st to beg sc (8 sc). Fasten
off first color.
Rnd 2:
Attach second color to any st on Rnd 1. Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3,
*sc in next sc, ch 3, rep from * around, join with sl st to beg sc.
Fasten off, leaving 18” tail for sewing (8 sc, 8 ch-3 lps)
Finishing:
With
right side of piece facing, sew button to piece at bind-off row end
so it will be opposite button loop when worn. Sew flower to headband
in desired location.
