BUNNY-SOFT CAPELET (knit)

Skill level:  Beginner/Easy

 

Size:  Stretches to fit a range of sizes - approx. 42" circumference around shoulders, 13" long

 

Materials:

240 yds. soft, fuzzy novelty yarn (rayon/nylon/acrylic blend) (sample shown in Online Linie 43 "Punta")

Few yds. same or contrast color yarn (for flower)

Size 15 (10 mm) circular needle (for capelet)

Size 11 (8 mm) straight needles (for flower)

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 8 sts = 4", 12 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch on size 15 (10 mm) needles

Stitches/Terms:  bind off (BO), cast on (CO),  knit (K), knit two together (K2tog), increase (inc), make 1 (M1), place marker (pm), purl (P), round (rnd),  stitch (st)

 

NOTE:  Capelet is worked circularly from the neck down.

 

Increase (inc):   Use make one (M1) technique, by placing a backwards loop over right thumb and placing new stitch on right needle.  Work into back of M1 increase stitch when you come to it on next round.

 

K2,P2 ribbing:  *K2, P2, rep from * around.  On subsequent rounds, knit the knits and purl the purls as they face you.

 

Capelet

 

With size 15 needles, cast on 48 sts LOOSELY, join into ring (being careful not to twist).  Place marker to note beginning of rounds.

Rnds 1-8 (rib rounds):  Work in K2, P2 ribbing around (48 sts)

Rnds 9-10:  Knit around (48 sts)

Rnd 11 (increase round): *K6, M1, rep from * around (56 sts)

Rnds 12-16:  Knit around (56 sts)

Rnd 17 (increase round): *K7, M1, rep from * around (64 sts)

Rnds 18-22: Knit around (64 sts)

Rnd 23 (increase round):  *K8, M1, rep from * around (72 sts)

Rnds 24-28: Knit around (72 sts)

Rnd 29 (increase round):  *K9, M1, rep from * around (80 sts)

Rnds 30-34: Knit around (80 sts)

Rnd 35 (increase round):  *K10, M1, rep from * around (88 sts)

Rnds 36-50: Knit around (88 sts)

Rnds 51-58 (rib rounds):  Work in K2, P2 ribbing around (88 sts)

Bind off VERY LOOSELY in K2, P2 rib pattern.  Cut yarn and weave in ends. Knit

 

Flower

With size 11 needles, cast on 4 sts.

Row 1: Knit across (4 sts)

Row 2:  K3, M1, K 1 (5 sts)

Row 3:  Knit even (5 sts)

Row 4:  K4, M1, K1 (6 sts)

 Row 5: Knit even (6 sts)

Row 6: K5, M1, K1 (7 sts)

Row 7: Knit even (7 sts)

Row 8:  K5, K2 tog (6 sts)

Row 9: Knit even (6 sts)

Row 10: K4, K2 tog (5 sts)

Row 11: Knit even (5 sts)

Row 12: K3, K2 tog (4 sts)

Rep Rows 1-12 four times (total of 5 "petals").

Bind off, then cut yarn, leaving 12" tail for sewing.  With yarn tail work running stitch along straight edge of piece and pull to gather into flower shape.  Sew through all layers of flower, attaching it to front of capelet at neckline.
