Lightweight (DK-weight) yarn (sample shown in Plymouth Yarns
Wildflower 51% cotton/49% acrylic, 136 yds. per 50 g. ball):
50 yds. Main Color (MC)(Coral)
10 yds. Color A (Green)
5 yds. Color B (White)
(4.25 mm) circular needle (16 length) or set of 4 (or 5) size 6
(4.25 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to achieve gauge
length of Ό satin ribbon
Gauge: 22 sts &
28 rows = 4 in stockinette stitch on size 6 (4.25 mm) needle
beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), decrease (dec),
increase (inc), knit (k), knit two together (K2tog), purl (p),
remaining (rem), repeat (rep), slip (sl), stitch (st), stockinette
stitch (st st)
worked in the round from lower edge to top.
each color change, drop old color over new color and pick up new
strand from under old dropped strand to avoid holes.
cut colors until instructed to do so. Carry unused strands loosely
up inside of hat.
circular needle and MC, CO 60. Join for knitting in the round,
being careful that stitches are not twisted. Place marker to note
beginning of rounds.
1-3: With MC, K.
of Rnd 3, drop MC, join Color A.
With Color A, k.
5-7: *K2, p2, rep from * around.
K. At end of rnd, drop Color A, pick up MC.
9-11: With MC, k. At end of Rnd 11, drop MC, join Color B.
12-13: With Color B, k. At end of Rnd 13, drop Color B, pick up
14: With Color A, k. At end of rnd, drop Color A, pick up MC.
15: With MC, k.
Colors A and B, leaving 6 tails to weave in later. Continue rest
of hat with MC.
16: *K3, p3, rep from * around.
Continue in K3, p3 rib until hat measures 4 from cast-on edge.
rnd (eyelet rnd): *K1, yo, k1, yo, k1, p3, rep from * around.
rnd: *K5, p3, rep from * around.
last rnd 4 times. Bind off and weave in all tails.
ribbon through eyelet rnd and tie in a bow as shown, drawing top of
hat closed. Trim ribbon ends with diagonal cut.
