Skill level:

Finished Size: Approximately 23” wide by 26” long

Materials:

600 yds. worsted wt. acrylic/wool blend yarn, or worsted wt. yarn of choice

Sample shown in Plymouth Yarns “Encore” (25% wool/75% acrylic)

Size 10 (6 mm) circular knitting needle (29” length), or size needed to achieve gauge

Cable needle

Stitch markers (optional)

Row counter (optional)

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 16 sts & 20 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 10 (6 mm) needle

One 24-row cable & block pattern repeat = 4”

Pattern notes:

Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of stitches.

Cable blocks alternate with reverse stockinette stitch blocks and are offset every twelve rows.

For borders, six stitches at each side edge are worked in garter stitch (knit every row).

Stitch markers may be used to mark placement of border stitches and alternating blocks in pattern.

A row counter is useful for keeping track of rows in the pattern.

Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), established (est), knit (k), purl (p), repeat (rep), stitch (st)

Special stitches:

C6B (cable six back)(used on Rows 3 & 9): slip 3 sts on to cable needle and hold to back of work, knit next 3 sts, then knit 3 sts from cable needle

C6F (cable six front)(used on Rows 15 & 21): slip 3 sts on to cable needle and hold to front of work, knit next 3 sts, then knit 3 sts from cable needle.

Knit 6 rows.

Begin pattern:

Note: 6 sts at ea side are maintained in garter st throughout pattern. If using stitch markers between borders and blocks in pattern, place them as needed on Row 1 and slip them every row.

Row 1 (RS): K6, *p6, k6, rep from * to last 12 sts, p6, k6.

Row 2 (WS): K6, k6, *p6, k6, rep from * to last 6 sts, k6.

Row 3 (cable row): K6, *p6, C6B, rep from * to last 12 sts, p6, k6.

Row 4: Rep Row 2.

Rows 5-8: Rep Rows 1-2.

Row 9 (cable row): Rep Row 3.

Row 10: Rep Row 2.

Rows 11-12: Rep Rows 1-2.

Note: pattern offset begins on Row 13.

Row 13(RS): K6, *k6, p6, rep from * to last 12 sts, k6, k6.

Row 14(WS): K6, p6, *k6, p6, rep from * to last 6 sts, k6.

Row 15 (cable row): K6, *C6F, p6, rep from * to last 12 sts, C6F, k6.

Row 16: Rep Row 14.

Rows 17-20: Rep Rows 13-14.

Row 21 (cable row): Rep Row 15.

Row 22: Rep Row 14.

Rows 23-24: Rep Rows 13-14.

Rep Rows 1-24 five times (total of six 24-row pattern repeats). Piece measures approximately 25” from beg.

Upper border:

Knit 6 rows.

Bind off loosely. Weave in tails.

Finishing: If desired, block blanket to size according to care instructions on yarn label.
