Knit
on 24 sts until piece measures 3-1/2” from beginning point.
Decrease to form heart as follows:
Row 1:
(K2tog) four times, K8, (K2tog) four times (16)
Row 2:
Knit 1 row even (16)
Row 3:
(K2tog) three times, K4, (K2tog) three times (10)
Row 4:
Knit 1 row even (10)
Row 5:
K2, P2 across (10)
Row 6:
P2, K2 across (10)
Continue in K2, P2 rib until ribbed portion measures 2”. Place sts
on holder.
From
back side of ribbed portion, with separate strand of yarn, pick up
10 sts from last garter st row before start of ribbed section, and
work K2, P2 rib for 2”.
Join
ribbed sections: Place 10 sts from each ribbed section on separate
needles. Holding needles together, knit 1 from front needle
together with 1 from back needle and repeat across (10). The ribbed
portion is now joined at the top, thus forming the loop through
which the heart portion will go when the scarf is worn.
Increase back to 24 sts as follows:

holding needles together and knitting 1 stitch from front needle
together with 1 stitch from back needle across (10)
