Skill level:

Size: Approximately 14" wide x 50" long (can be made to desired length with additional yarn yardage)

Materials:

500 yds. DK-weight yarn (tencel/wool blend, or any wool, wool-blend, acrylic or other fiber that knits to gauge):

(Sample shown in Cleckheaton Tencel Wool - Double Knitting – 8 ply, 70% Tencel, 30% wool, 100 yds/50 gram ball)

Pair of size 8 (5 mm) needles, or size needed to achieve gauge

Row counter (optional)

Tapestry needle

Gauge: 18 sts & 30 rows = 4" in garter stitch on size 8 (5 mm) needle (unblocked)

Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), knit (K), knit 2 together (k2tog), purl (P), remaining (rem), repeat (rep), slip (sl), stitch (st), stockinette stitch (st st), yarn over (yo)

Pattern notes:

Shawl is worked in one piece lengthwise starting at narrow end.

For smoother edges, slip first stitch of every row knitwise.

A row counter is useful for keeping track of rows in pattern.

Special stitches/Techniques:

Knit 2 together (k2tog): Knit two stitches together as one (1 st decreased)

Rows 1-2: K.

Row 3 (dec row): K10, (k2tog)5x, k20, (k2tog)5x, k10 (50 sts)

Row 4: K.

Row 5 (inc row): K10, (k1, yo)5x, k20, (k1, yo)5x, k10 (60 sts)

Row 6: K.

Row 7 (dec row): K20, k5, (k2tog)5x, k5, k20 (55 sts)

Row 8: K.

Row 9 (inc row): K25, (k1, yo)5x, k25 (60 sts)

Rows 10-12: K.

Rep Rows 3-12 until shawl measures approximately 50", or to desired length. Bind off and weave in tails.

If desired, block shawl following care instructions on yarn ball band.
