Staggered twist stitches
add pattern interest to this quick-knit neckwarmer
Skill level: 
Size: 4” high by
16” circumference (unstretched) – will stretch up to 26”
circumference to fit over head
Materials:

yds. soft worsted weight yarn
Sample shown in Caron “Simply Soft” (100% acrylic, 157 yds
per 3 oz. ball)
Circular knitting needle (16” length) size 8 (5 mm), or size needed
to achieve gauge

Gauge: 20 sts &
24 rows = 4” in K2 P2 rib pattern (slightly stretched) on size 8 (5
mm) needles
Terms/Abbreviations:
beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), knit (k), pm (place
marker), purl (p), remaining (rem), repeat (rep), round (rnd), slip
(sl), stitch (st)
Special stitches:
Twist
two right (T2R): skip first stitch on left needle tip, knit next
stitch without removing it from needle, knit skipped stitch and
slide both stitches to right needle tip.
Pattern notes:
Cowl
is worked in the round in one piece from lower edge to top.
Cast
on and bind off very loosely to allow for stretch over head.

very loosely. Join for circular knitting, being careful that
stitches are not twisted. Place marker to note beginning of round.
Rnds
1-5: *K2, p2, rep from * around.
Rnd 6
(twist st rnd): [*K2, p2, T2R, p2, rep from * twice, k2, p2] 3
times.
Rnds
7-11: *K2, p2, rep from * around.
Rnd 12
(twist st rnd): [K2, p2, k2, p2, *T2R, p2, k2, p2, rep from * once,
k2, p2] 3 times.

13-18: Rep Rnds 1-6.
Rnds
19-23: *K2, p2, rep from * around.
Bind
off very loosely in pattern. Cut yarn and weave in all tails.
