Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on
(CO), decrease (dec), knit (K), knit 2 together (k2tog), purl (P),

stitch (st), stockinette stitch (st st), yarn over (yo)
Pattern notes:
Beanie is worked in the round in one piece from lower rib to top
decreases at crown.
A row counter is useful for keeping track of rounds in pattern.
Special stitches/Techniques:
Knit 2 together (k2tog): Knit two stitches together as one (1 st
decreased)
Purl 3 together (p3tog): Purl three stitches together as one (2
sts decreased)
To work yarn over (yo) between a knit stitch & a purl stitch:
take yarn under and over right needle to back of work, then bring
yarn to front of work between needle tips, in position to purl next
stitch.
To work yarn over (yo) between a purl stitch & a knit stitch:
take yarn over right needle to back of work, in position to knit
next stitch.
Beanie
With smaller circular needle, CO 78 loosely. Join for knitting in
the round, being careful that stitches are not twisted on needle.
Place marker to note beginning of rounds.
Ribbing:
Rnds 1-6: *K1, P1, rep from * around (78)
Change to larger circular needle.
Begin hat body pattern:
Rnds 1-2: K.
Rnd 3: K1, *yo, p1, p3tog, p1, yo, k1; rep from * around, ending
last rep yo, p1, p3tog, p1, yo.
Rnd 4: K.
Rep Rnds 1-4 of hat body until piece measures approximately 7"
from cast-on edge, ending with Rnd 4.
Begin crown decreases (Note: change to dpns when sts no longer
fit comfortably on circular needle):
Rnd 1: K (78)
Rnd 2 (dec rnd): *K2tog, rep from * around (39)
Rnd 3 (dec rnd): *P3tog, rep from * around (13)
Rnd 4 (dec rnd): K1, *k2tog, rep from * around (7)
Cut yarn, leaving 8" tail. Thread tail through tapestry needle,
gather rem sts tog and pull gently to close. Weave in all tails.
