of cardboard or a book sixty
times, then cut at one end to form sixty 18-inch
strands. Set fringe aside.
Scarf
CO 15 sts loosely.
Knit 4 rows.
Begin pattern:
Row 1 (drop-stitch row): Knit, winding yarn twice
around needle in every stitch.
Row 2: Knit, dropping extra yarnovers of previous
row (15 sts)
Rows 3-4: Knit (15 sts)
Repeat Rows 1-4 until scarf is desired length,
reserving enough yarn to work last
five rows.
Next row: Rep Row 1.
Last 4 rows: Knit every row. Bind off loosely.
Attach fringe: Hold 2 strands of fringe together and
attach in each cast on and
bound off stitch on ends of scarf as follows: insert
crochet hook into stitch, fold
strands in half over hook, pull loop through fabric
then pull ends of strands
through loop on hook, and tighten knot. Trim fringe
to desired length.
Finishing:
If necessary, lightly block scarf between damp
towels, gently pulling on ends of
scarf to "set" drop stitches.
