J/10 (6 mm) crochet hook (to attach fringe)
Tapestry needle
Gauge: 8.5 sts & 10.5 rows = 4" in stockinette st on size 17 (12
mm) needles
Stitches/Terms: bind off (BO), cast on (CO), knit (K), place marker
(pm), purl (P), repeat (rep), slip slip knit (ssk), stitch (st),
stockinette stitch (st st), yarn over (yo) To work ssk: Slip 2 sts
from left needle to right needle, one at a time, without knitting
them, then insert left needle from left to right into those 2 sts
and knit them together from this position.
Pattern notes:
Two
strands of yarn are held together throughout (one of each type of
yarn noted above.)
Slip
first stitch of every row purlwise.
It may
be helpful to place a marker inside the three garter stitches at
each edge. Use a row counter to help keep track of pattern rows.
Wrap
Note:
For fringe, set aside 50 yds. of each yarn at start of project.
Holding one strand of each yarn together as one, cast on 42 sts
LOOSELY.
Knit 2
rows.
Begin
pattern:
Row
1: Slip first st purlwise, K2, *K1, yo, ssk, rep from * across to
last 3 sts, K3.
Row 2:
Slip first st purlwise, K2, purl across to last 3 sts, K3.
Row 3:
Slip first st purlwise, K2, *K2, yo, ssk, K2, rep from * across to
last 3 sts, K3.
Row 4:
Rep Row 2.
Row 5:
Slip first st purlwise, K2, *K3, yo, ssk, K1, rep from * across to
last 3 sts, K3.
Row 6:
Rep Row 2.
Repeat
Rows 1-6 until wrap measures 70", or desired length.
Knit 2
rows.
Bind
off LOOSELY and weave in ends.
Fringe: Cut 84 20" lengths of each yarn (wrap yarn around a 9" book
or piece of cardboard and cut strands at one end). Attach 1 mohair
and 1 ribbon strand to each stitch along cast on and bind off edges
as follows: insert crochet hook into stitch, fold strands in half
around hook, pull loop through fabric, then pull ends of strands
through loop on hook and tighten knot.
