TABLE RUNNER STOLE

Skill level:

 

Size:  Approx. 12" wide x 64" long (in fingering weight yarn)

Note:  Stole can be made larger by using thicker yarn & bigger needles

 

Materials:

600 yds. fingering weight  yarn (or sport wt. or worsted wt. for larger stole)

Pair of size 8 (5 mm) needles, or size needed to achieve gauge

 

Note:  If using sport wt. yarn, use size 9 (5.5 mm) needles

If using worsted wt. yarn, use size 10 (6 mm) needles

Tapestry needle

Gauge:  10 sts & 12 rows = 2" in garter stitch on size 8 (   mm) needles

Stitches/Terms:  beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), garter stitch (knit every row), knit (k), repeat (rep), stitch (st)

Pattern notes:

Stole is knit from narrow end to narrow end in garter stitch with interspersed drop-stitch rows for interest.

Stole

Cast on 60 sts.

Rows 1-8: K (4 ridges completed)

Row 9 (drop-stitch row):  Knit, wrapping yarn twice around needle in every stitch.

Row 10: Knit, dropping extra yarnover in each stitch.

Rows 11-18: K.

Row 19: Rep Row 9.

Row 20: Rep Row 10.

Rows 21-40: K.

Row 41: Rep Row 9.

Row 42: Rep Row 10.

Rows 43-310: K.

Row 311: Rep Row 9.

Row 312: Rep Row 10.

Rows 313-332: K.

Row 333: Rep Row 9.

Row 334: Rep Row 10.

Rows 335-342: K.

Row 343: Rep Row 9.

Row 344: Rep Row 10.

Rows 345-352: K.  At end of Row 352, bind off loosely. 

Finishing:  Consult the care instructions for your chosen yarn and, if appropriate, block stole lightly between damp towels.  Leave to dry.
