With circular needle & MC, cast on 72 sts. Join for circular knitting, being careful that stitches are not twisted on needle. Place marker to note beg of rnds.

Rnds 1-20: *K2, p2, rep from * around.

Rep Rnds 1-4 until tweed portion of hat measures 5” from top of ribbed portion.

Rep Rnd 1.

Begin decreases (Note: change to dpns when sts no longer fit comfortably on circular needle):

Rnd 1 (dec rnd): With CC, *k7, k2tog, rep from * around (64 sts)

Rnd 2: With MC, *K1B, k1, rep from * around.

Rnd 3 (dec rnd): With MC, *k6, k2tog, rep from * around (56 sts)

Rnd 16 (dec rnd): With MC, k2tog around (4 sts) DO NOT CUT YARN.

Begin I-cord:

Continuing with MC, k2tog twice, k1 (3 sts remain). Work I-cord on 3 sts thus: knit across these 3 sts, slide sts to right side of needle, pull yarn from back and knit the same 3 sts. Repeat until I-cord measures 6”.  End with k3tog to bind off, cut yarn, leaving 8” tail.

Finishing

Make a pom pom and sew securely to end of I-cord. Weave in all tails.
