Size: newborn to 6 mos. Cap measures approx. 16" around and 6" deep. Materials: Bernat Baby Softee, or sport-weight baby yarn - 1 oz. white, 1 oz. contrast color Size G hook Rnd 1: With size G hook and contrast color, make starting ring (loop yarn around finger twice), insert hook into loop, pull yarn through, ch 3, make 11 more dc in ring, join to beg ch 3 with sl st (pull beg tail of yarn to close the circle). Rnd 2: Ch 3, 1 dc in same dc as beg ch, 2 dc in ea dc around, join with sl st to beg ch-3 (24 dc). Rnd 3: Ch 3, 1 dc in same dc as beg ch, *1 dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc, rep from * around, join with sl st to top of beg ch-3 (36 dc), fasten off contrast color, join white. Rnd 4: Ch 2, dc in same st as joining, ch 2, sc in same st, *skip 1 dc, (2 dc, ch 2, sc in same st), rep from * around, join with sl st to beg ch-2 space (18 dc groups). Rnd 5: Ch 1, turn, sl st in first ch-2 space, ch 2, 1 dc in same sp, ch 2, sc in same space, *(2 dc, ch 2, sc in next ch-2 sp), rep from * around, join with sl st in beg ch-2 space (18 dc groups). Rnd 6-12: Rep Rnd 5. NOTE: Work Rnds 13-15 loosely or on a one-size-larger hook to prevent tightness around edge. Rnd 13: Ch 1, turn, sc in ea sp and st around (53 sc), join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off white, join contrast color. Rnd 14: Ch 1, turn, sc in ea sc around (53 sc) Rnd 15 (edging): Ch 1, turn, sl st in first 2 sc, for picot (ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook), *sl st in next 2 sc, picot, rep from * around, join with sl st and fasten off (27 picots).
