Susan’s Six Point Snowflake

These work up quickly and you can change the length of the points by omitting or adding sets of picots.

Materials:

Size 10 Bedspread Weight Crochet Cotton

Size 7 Steel Crochet Hook (You may use a size 6 or 8 if you prefer)

Finished Size: 4 inches

Gauge: Not important

Special Stitch: Joined TR (Joined Treble Crochet)
To work: YO 2 times, insert hook in next dc, YO and draw through stitch, [YO and draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times), YO 2 times, insert hook in next dc, YO and draw through stitch, [YO and draw through 2 loops on hook] 2 times), YO and draw through remaining three loops on hook.

Picot: Ch 3 (4 or 5), sl st in 3rd (4th or 5th) ch from hook.

Instructions:

Ch 6, sl st to beginning ch to form a ring.

Round 1: Ch 3, 1 dc in ring, ch 2, * 2 dc in ring, ch 2; repeat from * 5 times. Join to 3rd chain of beginning ch 3. (12 dc, 6 ch 2 loops).

Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, ch 2, * sc in next ch 2 space, ch 2; dc in each of next 2 dc, ch 2, repeat from * around. End with a sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.

Round 3: Ch 3, TR in next dc (Beg. TR completed). (Ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook) 3 times (3 ch-4 picots made), ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook (1 ch-5 picot made), ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook, sl st in base of last ch-4 picot made, (ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook, sl st in base of next ch-4 picot) 2 times, sl st in top of Beg. TR. (One picot point made.)

* Ch 4, sl st in next sc, ch 3, sl st in same stitch, ch 4, complete a Joined TR over the next 2 dc (ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook) 3 times (3 ch-4 picots made), ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook (1 ch-5 picot made), ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook, sl st in base of last ch-4 picot made, (ch 4, sl st in 4th ch from hook, sl st in base of next ch-4 picot) 2 times, sl st in top of Joined TR. Repeat from * around. End with ch 4, sl st in next sc, ch 3, sl st in same stitch, ch 4, sl st in the top of the Beg. TR. (Six picot points)

Note: Picots will be opposite each other and they will form a point – three 4ch picots on each side and a 5 ch picot at the top)

Finishing:

Weave in ends. Stiffen using a 50/50 mixture of glue and water or your preferred method.

Add a length of gold thread or ribbon to one of the points for a hanger.
